For security reasons it is not permitted to store system data on a flash memory card if you have enabled increased password security. In this case, when accessing an S7-400F CPU, you will receive the error number 256:171.
Description
In the Properties of the S7-400F CPU, in STEP 7 V5.5 SP4 and higher you can go to the "Protection" tab and enable the option "Increased password security" in order to use a secure password.

If you have loaded the user program onto the memory card of the CPU using the instruction "PLC > Save to Memory Card...", then a password is requested when the online connection is established with the CPU. In this case the password is no longer recognized.

Cause
The increased password security is relevant only for the Engineering System. If you have enabled the option "Increased password security", the entered password is stored encrypted in the data management. The security of the password is increased with this setting and the behavior in password mode remains unchanged. The password is easier to decrypt on a memory card.

With STEP 7 V5.5 SP4 HF13 and higher the following message informs you before loading the user program onto the memory card:

"For security reasons it is not permitted to store system data on a flash memory card if you have enabled increased password security."

Note
If you have enabled the option "Increased password security" in the hardware configuration, then you can use these projects only in STEP 7 V5.5 SP4 (or higher), because this function is not backward compatible.
