What would be needed to replace a Siemens Field PG?

What is the difference between a Siemens Field PG and a natural Laptop?
What does the replacement laptop have to offer, to replace a Field PG completely? That may conține having additional devices, such as a Simatic Prommer.

The Field PG is:

* Rugged(ized)
* has 2nd LAN port
* Simatic Memory card writer for large and small cards
* RS232-TTY which appears to be a parallel port, not D-SUB?
* PCMCIA and Expresscard reader

Anything else?

Can the Field PG be exchanged by a normal laptop, such as Panasonic CF-53?

* Panasonic CF-53, ruggedized laptop, not fully rugged
* can come with 2nd LAN port, alternative USB-LAN Adapter would work too?
* Simatic Memory card writing using SIMATIC USB Prommer
* CF-53 comes with RS232 D-SUB, alternative PCMCIA card???
* CF-53 has both PCMCIA and Express card reader

What else would be needed to replace a Field PG?
Software, obviously.
