When customer try to configure a client on remote computer connect to an HMI Server, an error occurs:

Unable to connect to the HMI server in area 'Area name'

Environment

FactoryTalk View SE v7.0
Server:Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition 32 bits sp1
Client:Windows 7 Pro. 32 bits sp1
Answer
For a Network application this could be a problem with IIS, a group policy or local policy setting. Additionally you may not be able to open up any displays in Studio.

IIS Problem

Check the default IIS webpage works. In Internet Explorer, try to connect to the following URLs from the HMI server:

HTTP://PC Name
HTTP://PC Name/RSviewSE (Select List Projects if the webpage comes up).
If the default webpage able to display but RSViewSE page got Error 403 Forbidden, use this procedure:

In Windows Explorer, browse to RSView Enterprise folder.

For 32 bits Windows, the default folder is C:\Program Files\Rockwell Software\RSView Enterprise.
For 64 bits Windows, the default folder is C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockwell Software\RSView Enterprise.
Double click on RSViewWebManager.exe and restart IIS default webpage and try again.
Group Policy or Local Policy Setting
If the default webpage displays "You are not authorized to view this page." with an HTTP Error 401.1, there may be a security policy causing this.

In Control Panel, configure the local security policy.

For Windows XP, go to Administrative Tools--> Local Security Policy
For Windows 7/2008, go to System and Security--> Administrative tools--> Local Security Policy.
Expand Local Policies--> User Rights Assignment.
Find the policy "Deny access to this computer from the network." The default settings usually have no members listed or there may be a SUPPORT_user. If any other user or groups are listed try removing them.
Restart IIS and try the default web page and client again.
