The Zulu word Ubuntu means "humanity towards others".
This spirit of humanity wants to bring in the software world, the Ubuntu Linux.
This project relies entirely on free software, the principles it feels particularly committed.
In Ubuntu it attaches the greatest importance not only to the open and free availability, but also the translation into many languages as possible, on the use of Accessibility for the disabled, to helpfulness and friendly tone in the community.
Ubuntu is so marked by their own philosophy, which is obviously also accepted by the rapidly growing Ubuntu community.
The base system and Ubuntu package management has taken over for the Debian GNU / Linux. Unlike Debian Ubuntu is but a very small system consisting of Gnome, OpenOffice, Evolution, Gimp and some other programs, there is only: The entire distribution fits on a single CD.
This will also be the target audience of Ubuntu clear: not freaks, but new to Linux and office user, with the Linux fans will get their money thanks to the Debian substructure.
Ubuntu uses the ext4 file system and GRUB 2 boot manager. About to start the service at boot wakes Upstart, which completely replaces the old System V init. Even with the installation, you can create an encrypted home directory. (odi / amu)
Ubuntu is next to a desktop and server version available at Canonical in a version "Business Desktop Remix" with additional business software.
The version 12.04.2 LTS with long-term support, there are still available for download.
