In order to protect the spindle unit against mechanical or thermal destruction, the spindle unit must be brought into a no-current condition when the chuck is in the open position. This can be realized by withdrawing the controller enable at the axis interface.
For a digital evaluation unit, there is one digital input signal for each of the three positions of the spindle unit, which can be directly processed in the PLC. In order to protect the spindle unit against mechanical or thermal destruction, the spindle unit must be brought into a no-current condition when the chuck is in the open position. This can be realized by withdrawing the controller enable at the axis interface. This operation must also be carried out while a tool is being changed. This is because it cannot be completely ruled out that the clamping device of the spindle unit is in the open position for a longer period of time when a fault develops. As a result of the mechanical locking, when the clamping device is in the open position and the spindle is in a no current condition it can be ensured that the spindle unit maintains its position and does not move. This means that a tool change is not negatively influenced.
