Using TIA Portal in a Virtualized Infrastructure (Sample Configuration)
https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/document/109486064/
The application example shows the virtualization of an entire infrastructure with engineering stations (WinCC/STEP 7) and WinCC Runtime stations (WinCC Server and WinCC Clients).
Virtualizing applications and servers is well established in information technology. The advantages of virtualization can also be used in automation technology. This application example shows the options these advantages bring.
It is based on the following sample configuration.
A VMware cluster based on vSphere 5.5 is used to solve this task. This cluster consists of:
Four ESXi hosts
vCenter Server as the central management component
Two storage systems
The individual virtual machines are operated through remote access.

WinCC Virtualization
https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/document/49368181/
An overview of WinCC virtualization in connection with an ESXi server can be found in this entry. You will be shown the possibilities and limits of virtualization in the SCADA environment with WinCC V7 and WinCC Professional.
Virtualization of servers is already of high importance in information technology. In automation technology the advantages of virtualization shall also be achieved.
