In Anhui Province in eastern China, the largest photovoltaic park in the world is to be built. The $ 1 billion (€ 127.8 million) project is expected to be completed in May 2018, according to the Shanghai News portal.
The ensemble will be located on the site of a former coal mine that was subsequently flooded. It can be said that photovoltaic panels almost float. The project will be developed by the Chinese state-owned China Three Gorges Corporation and will have a capacity of 150 megawatts, and will be able to generate energy for approximately 94,000 homes.
In the Huainan area there is already another similar ensemble that currently holds the title of the largest such facility, although it has a capacity of only 4MW. The third photovoltaic power generating plant is on the edge of London and produces only 6 MW.
Technology has been used in the world for over ten years. Experts say, unlike simple solar panels, those on the water are much more efficient, as water helps keep them at a low temperature.
China is the world's largest consumer of energy, relying mainly on coal. However, China is also a world leader in the use of renewable energy, with 11% of all energy consumed being renewable. China intends that by 2030 the share of its use will be at least 20%. |
