Diagnostics in User Program with S7-1500

It is generally recommended to use the integrated system diagnostics of the S7-1500 controllers (see
Application - System Diagnostics with S7-1500 and TIA Portal), when diagnostic information is displayed on different visualization devices and not used in the user program. Please note that the integrated system diagnostics also work in the "STOP" mode of the S7-1500 controller. This is not possible with the manual diagnostics in the user program.

The different distributed I/O devices are connected with a S7-1500 controller via PROFINET. The devices detect the faults on their modules and send the diagnostic data to the respective controller. The controller evaluates this diagnostic information with the help of the diagnostic instructions and the error OBs in the user program. The operator panel displays the evaluated information graphically in a plant overview or in the respective device view.

Current revision levels of SIMATIC S7-1500 Software Controller
New features of the S7-1500 Software Controller, CPU 1505S, V1.8.1

The number of supported axes for motion has been increased from 6 axes (V1.7) to 30 axes

Corrections for S7-1500 Software Controller, CPU 1505S, V1.8.1

Numeroase selection of a diagnostic buffer entry or interrupt in the display
It may happen that an entry in the diagnostic buffer or display must be selected multiple times until the correct detail information is displayed. This behavior has been improved with version V1.8.1.
CPU goes to STOP with Windows reboot
In rare cases, it could happen that the CPU displayed a critical firmware exception error in the diagnostic buffer during a Windows reboot and then changed to STOP. This behavior has been improved with version V1.8.1.
Data mixed up during transfer to an ODK function when the same function is called from different execution levels (OB)
If an ODK function is called from different execution levels (OB), it may happen that the data is transferred incorrectly. With version V1.8.1, you can call an ODK function from different execution levels (OB) without the risk of data corruption.
CPU goes to STOP when calling ODK functions and the "GetTrace" function on different execution levels
When calling ODK functions in an interrupt OB (e.g. OB 32) and reading back the trace function in OB1, it may happen that the CPU goes to STOP operating state after a critical firmware exception error. With version 1.8.1, the "GetTrace" function can be called independent of the execution levels.
After voltage off/on, the ET 200SP PtP module does not work correctly
After a voltage cycle, it may happen that the ET 200SP PtP module does not work correctly. With version V1.8.1, the ET 200SP PtP module can be operated correctly after voltage off/on.

Module and channel diagnostics in SIMATIC S7-1200/S7-1500

How do you implement module and channel diagnostics in the user program of the SIMATIC S7-1200/S7-1500?
https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/document/109480387/how-do-you-implement-module-and-channel-diagnostics-in-the-user-program-of-the-simatic-s7-1200-s7-1500-

Function block for diagnosing channel errors in the central configuration or in an IO module connected via PROFINET IO. This block uses the "RALRM" instruction.
You implement module and channel diagnostics of IO modules that support diagnostics (like the function classes ST and HF of the ET 200SP) by calling the "RALRM" instruction in the diagnostic interrupt OB 82.
Module and channel diagnostics via the SIMATIC S7-1200/S7-1500 is illustrated taking the example of the central IO and via PROFINET IO:

System Diagnostics in User Program with S7-1500 S7-1200 Diagnostics in User Program with S7-1500

Using the FB "1x00Diag82" and depending on the controller family used (S7-1200 or S7-1500) you can decode and process per module or channel the diagnostics data of the "RALRM" instruction for the central or distributed configuration via PN IO.

Documentation and example project for diagnostics in the user program
This example shows the diagnosis of a PROFINET IO and a PROFIBUS DP system in the user program with up to 128 devices. The visualization of the diagnostic information is displayed on an operator panel.
Code:
All SIMATIC products have integrated diagnostic functions that allow you to detect and clear faults. The components automatically report a fault during operation and provide additional detailed information. Plant-wide diagnostics can minimize unscheduled downtimes.

This application example describes how to monitor a PROFINET IO system and a PROFIBUS DP master system with different devices in the user program. The devices are connected to an S7-1500 controller via PROFINET IO / PROFIBUS DP. The devices detect faults on their modules and send the diagnostic data to the assigned controller. The controller evaluates this diagnostic information with the diagnostic instructions in the user program and saves it to a global data block. The operator panel graphically displays the evaluated diagnostic information in one view per IO system or in a device view.

It considers the following states:
    State OK
    State FAULTY
    State LOST CONNECTION
    State DEACTIVATED
    State PROBLEM / MAINTENANCE
    State WAS FAULTY
    State HAD LOST CONNECTION
    State WAS DEACTIVATED
    State WAS PROBLEM / MAINTENANCE

Note
The diagnostics in the user program are not possible for Safety modules.
