Data backup
Replace the CF card
If you assume that the CF card is defective as a result of various symptoms, then you can replace it as follows.

Data must first be backed up; a data backup is only possible when the control system is in an operable condition. As a consequence, regularly ensure that a complete data backup for the control exists.

Data backup
Save the complete setup archive on the system CF card.
> Menu > Setup > Setup archive > Create > All control components
Save data from the SRAM to the CF card > Menu > Setup > Data backup
Back up the complete CF card including data and software:
Insert a data storage medium at the front (CF or USB) min. 2GB (FAT)
Restart the control system
When running up, press the Select key to access the setup (startup) menu
In the setup menu, press the following keys one after the other "^", HSK2, VSK2 (or 8,2,8)
Select "Create software backup" and confirm
Enter the name with .tgz extension

Replace the CF card
Create a new bootable CF card
Order an empty SIEMENS replacement CF card:
Software Version <4>= 4.9 - 8 GB Leerkarte 6FC5313-6AG00-0AA0 (further information:109803361 )
Insert the card into the PC on which the "Access MyMachine" software from the toolbox is installed
Start the software, the connection to the control system is not required. Activate the expert view under: View > Expert view
Write data to the card: NC setup > Făurite SINUMERIK 828D boot system and select the drive letter of the CF card
Create a data backup (if there is no CF card backup or archive)
Switch on the control system (power on)
Insert a data storage medium at the front (USB or CF) min. 2GB (FAT)
Press Ctrl + Alt + S to create the archive
(If this is not possible, request the archive from the OEM)
Replace the CF card
Remove the defective system CF card from the rear sheet metal cover (power off)
Insert a new bootable CF card
Import the data backup (CF card backup available)
Insert data storage medium with CF card backup at the front (USB or CF)
Switch on the control system (power on)
When running up, press the Select key to access the setup (startup) menu
Select "Install software backup" and confirm
Select the backed up CF card image (.tgz) from the data storage medium
After the data has been imported, restart the control system and set the time
Relicensing the license key:
At www.siemens.com/sinumerik/help open a support request with product: "SINUMERIK 828D license"
Enter thehardware serial numberof the defective and new CF card
The new license key is sent by mail
Enter the new license key into the 828D control: Menu > Setup > Licenses
Carry out a power on reset
Optionally: load the user data if the machine data are at the factory settings
When running up, press the Select key to access the setup (startup) menu
Select "Reload saved user data" and confirm
Import the data backup (setup archive is available)
The desired CNC software must be available or re-purchased.
Save the CNC software to a data storage medium (USB or CF in FAT 2GB)
Import the CNC software:
Insert the data storage medium with CNC software into the front of the 828D
Restart the control system
When running up, press the Select key to access the setup (startup) menu
Select "Install software backup" and confirm
Select the saved software release and follow the menu
Relicensing the license key
At www.siemens.com/sinumerik/help open a support request with product: "SINUMERIK 828D license"
Enter thehardware serial number of the defective and of the new CF card
The new license key is sent by mail
Enter the new license key into the 828D control: Menu > Setup > Licenses
Carry out a power on reset
Read in archives
Switch on the control system (power on)
After powering up, under Menu > Setup archive > Import setup archive:
Select the archive from the inserted data storage medium and follow the menu
