The product TIM 1531 IRC can only be configured as a component of the SIMATIC S7-1500 system with STEP 7 Professional (TIA Portal) as of V14 SP1.
To use the new functions, the product TIM 1531 IRC must be configured with TIA Portal V15 Update 1.
Firmware V1.1 contains new functions and product improvements concerning general operation of the module in the S7-1500 system. Upgrading via a free firmware update therefore generally makes sense and is recommended.

1. Product description
The firmware V2.8 includes the following new functions and product improvements:
Support of S7-Routing via TIM 3V-IE Advanced when configuring in the TIA Portal.
2. Firmware update
Save the file in a temporary folder. The installation is started automatically when the .exe file is unzipped.
The firmware, consisting of
the basic package TIM3VIES_V2.8.FWL for the TIM 3V-IE,
the basic package TIM3VIEA_V2.8.FWL for the TIM 3V-IE Advanced and
the driver package, which must be loaded on both TIM 3V-IE versions,
is then stored automatically in the folder ...\P7ST\TIMFW_VXW below the STEP7 installation environment.
The basic package and the driver package of the TIM 3V-IE and TIM 3V-IE Advanced firmware must be loaded on the TIM module with two different programs in the order described here:
1. Driver package
To load the driver package, the SINAUT Diagnostics and Service tool must be used.
No file or path information is necessary to load the driver package. The driver package is found automatically.
2. Basic package
To load the basic package, use the NCM Firmware Loader.
(Component of STEP 7: SIMATIC => STEP 7 => NCM S7 => Firmware Loader).
To load the basic package with the NCM Firmware Loader, you need to know the correct file name and file path (e.g. ...\P7ST\TIMFW_VXW/TIM3VIES_V2.8.FWL) because this must be specified explicitly in the NCM Firmware Loader.
Please note that the basic package may only loaded over the Ethernet interface of the TIM and the MAC address must be known (see sticker behind the front flap of the TIM module). The S7 online interface of your programming device/PC must be set to "ISO Ind. Ethernet" in the "Set PG/PC interface" dialog.
To load the basic package, the TIM module must be put in download mode. For this you need to briefly press the Reset button of the TIM. The TIM will then begin to restart, which you can tell by the fact that the TIM switches on all LEDs for about 5 seconds. You must press the Reset button of the TIM again within this time and hold it until the RUN LED of the TIM starts to flash. The TIM is then in download mode. The download can now be started via the NCM Firmware Loader. As soon as the download is activated by the Firmware Loader the STOP LED of the TIM starts to flash and flashes until the download procedure is complete. A voltage reset must be carried out after this.
For more detailed information, refer to the Readme file which is part of the extracted firmware.
