SIMOTION Startup Check

The standard application Startup Check provides functions in order to check peripheral devices and technology objects of type axis and external encoder. The function result (existing and OK, existing but faulty, not existing) can be used e.g. as starting condition of the machine in the application. This can also be helpful in modular machine concepts.

In order to reliably start a machine, it must be ensured that all required peripheral devices and technology objects are available and ready-to-use.

After switching on a machine, the various peripheral devices require different startup times or the devices may be activated with time delays. For this reason, the SIMOTION device may start to process the user program even though an important peripheral device has not started up yet or an error is signaled.

The functions and function blocks of the program unit pStartupCheck help to identify this situation by providing information on the configured devices at the various field bus systems or internal connections and their state.

Cyclic communication has to be established, e.g. startup of the drive before the encoder interface is initialized for the axis and external encoder technology objects. A technology object therefore may only be used when cyclic communication is active and the encoder interface is ready. The machine is only ready for operation when all peripheral devices and all technology objects are ready.

The pStartupCheck program unit is supplied as an XML file and can be imported into the PROGRAMS folder in the SIMOTION project. It is recommended that the integration in SIMOTION SCOUT (STEP 7 V5.x) is performed with the ProjectGenerator SIMOTION easyProject.
In addition to the automatic program import or program update, the LDPV1 library (acyclic data exchange) required for the operation and a preconfigured program for the global resource management (pGlobalBufferManager) is also integrated automatically in the project. The SIMOTION IT web page for the Startup Check can also be integrated and loaded automatically.
