SIMOTION C2xx Firmware Version Change
The SIMOTION C Controllers are generally supplied with the current firmware version. The C230-2 firmware is installed on the device and the MMC Card for this controller is delivered without firmware. The C240/C240 PN does not contain any firmware, it directly uses the firmware installed on the MMC-Card. If you wish to use another firmware version this can be achieved by replacing the firmware on the MMC Card of either controller.

Before upgrading/downgrading the firmware version, we recommend that you save the complete contents of the MMC Card with a card reader and Windows Explorer onto your PC/PG.

The procedure to be applied depends on whether licenses and/or user data are stored on the MMC Card.
The MMC Card does not contain licenses or user data
No further action must be taken; delete the contents of the MMC Card and install the firmware as described under "Install firmware on MMC Card".
The MMC Card contains licenses (e.g. axis licenses)
Before installing the new firmware, save the directory "KEYS" on your PC. After installing the new firmware, copy this directory back onto the MMC Card.
Note:
The License Key is stored on the MMC Card in the directory "KEYS". When starting up the SIMOTION device for the first time, the License Key is stored in the boot sector of the MMC Card as of Firmware Version V4.1.

License Keys stored in the boot sector cannot be deleted by the user, neither by formatting the MMC Card nor by rewriting the boot loader.
If the file Keys.txt is not available on the MMC Card (e.g. by deleting the directory "KEYS"), the SIMOTION controller creates a copy of the boot sector backup in the directory "KEYS" on startup of the SIMOTION device. The License Key can be modified at anytime, e.g. by relicensing. Upon the next startup, the new License Key will be stored in the boot sector.
Should the License Key get lost, you can obtain it again via the Web License Manager http://www.siemens.com/automation/license. For this, you require the hardware serial number indicated on the MMC Card. You can display the appropriate License Key in the Web License Manager.
The MMC Card contains user data
When storing data on the MMC Card within your application, you have to save the data before installing the new firmware.

Before modifying the Firmware Version, you can store the commissioning data (retain data and data stored on the MMC Card via _saveUnitDataSet /_exportUnitDataSet within the application). Saving logfiles:
- Machine logbook files are stored by the user: user\simotion\hmi\prjlog\userlog.txt
- System logbook for ROM actions: user\simotion\hmi\syslog\syslog.000
- When using the system function _activateConfiguration (modular machine), store the generated LOG file (under install\simotion\log), if necessary
Saving IT DIAG user files:
- user\simotion\hmicfg\webcfg.xml
- user\simotion\hmi\files\user.htm
- If available, user-specific web pages in the directory user\simotion\hmi\files

General remarks
Only use MMC Cards which have been released for the particular SIMOTION C and Firmware Version. Especially when performing upgrades, you should check whether a new boot loader version must be installed (using SCOUT "Option\Write Boot sector"). The firmware for the SIMOTION devices is provided on the SIMOTION SCOUT CDs/DVDs for the particular SIMOTION version (\3_C2xx\Firmware_C230\V...\c230_2fw.zip or \3_C2xx\Firmware_C240\V...\c240_fw.zip). In addition, you can Download the firmware versions.
A SIMOTION SCOUT engineering system with the appropriate Version Vx.y (or later) is required to use the firmware.
Please read the Readme files and upgrade instructions supplied with each SIMOTION version.
A SIMOTION C240/C240 PN cannot be operated with the firmware of the SIMOTION C230-2 and vice versa !

Install firmware on MMC Card
Save the desired version of the attached firmware ZIP files onto your PG/PC.
Insert the MMC Card in your card reader.
Open the Windows Explorer. --> The MMC Card must be visible as removable medium under an arbitrary drive letter in the Windows Explorer.
Save licenses and user data stored on the MMC Card onto your PG/PC ( see information above)
Use the Windows Explorer to delete all data on the MMC Card.
Unpack the complete firmware file onto the MMC Card. Please note that the file structure (if available) must be maintained when unzipping the files.
Copy the data stored under step 4 back into the appropriate directory structure on the MMC Card.
Remove the MMC Card from the MMC card reader
Insert the MMC into the card slot of the controller
- for SIMOTION C230-2: Turn the power on and wait until the Update of the controller has finished.
- for SIMOTION C240/C240 PN: Turn the power on. The C240/C240 PN directly boots with the firmware from the MMC card.

Controller support
The C240 is supported as of SIMOTION Version V4.0.0.2 and the C240 PN as of Version V4.1.2.3.
As of V4.0 the C230-2 with the order number "6AU1230-2AA00-0AA0" is not supported anymore. However, this controller can still be engineered with e.g. SCOUT V4.1 and Runtime-System V3.2.
As of V4.2 the C230-2 with the order number "6AU1230-2AA01-0AA0" is not supported anymore. However, this controller can still be engineered with e.g. SCOUT V4.2 and Runtime-System V4.1.

Controller support
The C240 is supported as of SIMOTION Version V4.0.0.2 and the C240 PN as of Version V4.1.2.3.
As of V4.0 the C230-2 with the order number "6AU1230-2AA00-0AA0" is not supported anymore. However, this controller can still be engineered with e.g. SCOUT V4.1 and Runtime-System V3.2.
