SIMATIC S7-1500T: Setup and Diagnosis of Cross-PLC synchronous operation
https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/document/109770938/
Cross-PLC synchronous operation is available from firmware version V2.8 in all technology controllers and from firmware version V20.8 in the Open Controller of the SIMATIC S7-1500T controller family and can be used in SIMATIC for synchronous operation with gearing or camming across several controllers.
With Cross-PLC synchronous operation, the master axes and the slave axes of a gearing or camming synchronization can be distributed to several SIMATIC controllers. The communication between the controllers takes place via the "direct data exchange" of the SIMATIC using PROFINET IO with IRT (Isochronous Real Time). Master value transfer to the controllers of the slave axes is carried out by a leading axis proxy.
To ensure that all slave axes move synchronously with each other, the differences in runtime caused by the master value transfer to the other controllers are compensated for by the functionality of Cross-PLC synchronous operation:
Local slave axes on the controller of the master value source receive the master value with a time delay.
In the controllers of the slave axes, a leading axis proxy is used to adjust the master value in time so that the setpoint output to the slave axes takes place at the same time.
Therefore, with the aid of Cross-PLC synchronous operation, the setpoint output to the slave axes coupled with the leading axis proxy takes place simultaneously with the nominal value output to the local slave axes on the control of the master value source and all axes move synchronously with each other.
Cross-PLC synchronous operation in the SIMATIC offers the following advantages:
By distributing master value sources and slave axes on different controllers, function groups can be formed in a project, which allow for a modular machine structure.
For Cross-PLC synchronous operation, various topologies can be used for coupling the axes, such as linear or cascaded connection.
For the interconnection of the slave axes on the individual controllers, the leading axis proxies are used, which transmit the master value of the master value source to the slave axis in a system controlled manner.
Within the system, different Motion Control application cycles on the individual controllers are taken into account. All slave axes receive the appropriate master value at the same time and are, therefore, synchronous.
This article contains a detailed description of how to set up a Cross-PLC synchronous operation, illustrated by an example of a gearing synchronization via three SIMATIC controllers. In addition, the documentation contains detailed notes and examples for the diagnosis and checking of Cross-PLC synchronous operation using the TIA Portal Project Trace.
To ensure that the configuration steps and diagnostic options presented can be immediately understood, two additional sample projects for the TIA Portal are offered for download:
Sample project for configuration
This sample project contains only the presented configuration steps from creating the TIA Portal project, setting up the data transmission to creating the technology objects. This allows the necessary configuration steps to be reproduced and transferred to your own projects.
Sample project with functional program
This sample project is based on the above-mentioned project and also contains a PLC program for controlling the technology objects and extended I/O communication for central control of all axes and synchronization functions from the SIMATIC S7-1511TF master CPU. This sample project is fully functional and is equipped with virtual axes. This means, that the project can also be used to reproduce the diagnostic options from the documentation.
