This application example gives a practical overview of the Process Function Library (PFL) V2.0 and its components, shown on the Module Type Package (MTP) TIA Portal project.
With this project the SIMATIC Process Function Library is shown, how they work and how you can use them. You see how it needs to be configured in the Service Engineering Tool and what is necessary in the TIA Portal for their usage.
Overview
In the MTP TIA Portal project a Cleaner Station for a plant is configured. The process is simulated in the PLC, so SIMIT is not needed. The whole application example can be operated with MTP services. You only need to start these services via the HMI runtime and the configured services will do the process of the small plant. The MTP services pump Water from a tank to a reactor for cleaning purpose. It is also possible to refill the tank.
For the process there are different components in use. There is a tank with level measurements, a digital pump, a flow indicator, which is connected to an PID controller, which controls the valve at the end of the process.
The start of the process of a cleaner station, which is the content of the project, can be done in three different ways:

The SIMATIC Process Function Library V2.0 is available as free download from Siemens Industry Online Support, while the runtime is licensed as follows
AS Runtime license
HMI Runtime license
Upgrade license
The AS Runtime license is required for each SIMATIC S7-151x controller on which the components of the SIMATIC Process Function Library V2.0 are to be loaded.
The HMI Runtime license is required for each SIMATIC WinCC Unified Comfort Panel on which the local operation based on SIMATIC Process Function Library V2.0 will be performed.
The Upgrade license is required to upgrade projects from SIMATIC MTP Library V1.0 to SIMATIC Process Function Library V2.0. The license needs to be ordered for each SIMATIC TIA Portal project and is valid to upgrade all existing AS Runtime & HMI Runtime licenses in this project.

The LStream library makes it possible to convert the JSON and XML data formats into a format that is more compatible with a SIMATIC S7 Controller for further processing. It can also be used to create an XML format from abstract data for further processing.

The SIMATIC Process Function Library V3.0 contains the following add-on libraries that can be installed on TIA Portal:

SIMATIC_Process_Function_Library_Unified_V3.0.0.0
The PFL Engineering Tool and PFL Telecontrol Add-In are installed along with the libraries.
Note
Both HW and SW Library can be installed together in an engineering station, but cannot be used in the same project.

SIMATIC S7-1500 R/H-Controllers are not supported due to missing OPC UA support.
