S7-1500 OPC UA-Server self-diagnostics

The "OPC_UA_ReadList" command lets you monitor and diagnose the status of your OPC UA server for a S7-1500 controller as of TIA Portal V18 and firmware V3.0.
Here, the controller reads data from its own OPC UA server. Data are accessed not with a client connection, but rather internally in the controller.
Therefore, for self-diagnostics, it does not matter whether the OPC UA client of the controller is enabled or disabled.
The exported data are based on the existing standard nodes of the S7 OPC UA server. You can modify the selection of the data you wish to read by altering the code in the FBs concerned.
Reading of diagnostic data lets you process the data later on in your user project. In this way, it is possible to trigger an alarm, a warning light or the like downstream, for example.
Within the blocks, the command "OPC_UA_ReadList" is executed and the respective diagnostic data are output at the block interface.
The "OPC_UA_ReadList" instruction belongs t the OPC UA client instructions.
With S7-1500 CPUs with firmware version < V3.0, the instruction "OPC_UA_ReadList" can only be used to read PLC tags of a remote OPC UA server. To achieve this, other instructions must be called in advance, for example to establish the connection, among other things. In addition, after the read operation, other instructions must be called in order to free up resources again.
These leading and trailing operations become unnecessary when you use the "OPC_UA_ReadList" instruction to diagnose the OPC UA server of the local CPU. In this case, "OPC_UA_ReadList" operates completely independently.
When using "OPC_UA_ReadList" to diagnose the OPC UA server of the local CPU, some parameters have a different meaning than when reading PLC tags of a remote OPC UA server. This applies especially to the parameter "ConnectionHdl". You use this to define how you want to use the function.
The decimal value "-42" (16#FFFFFFD6) for "ConnectionHdl" causes "OPC_UA_ReadList" to read nodes on the OPC UA server of the local controller. In this case, it works independently of any client functionality.
This then means that no connections are handled, and the OPC UA client on your CPU does not need to be enabled. If you nevertheless enabled the OPC UA client, then the call of "OPC_UA_ReadList" (used in the manner described above) is not part of the client program.
