There are loads of different versions and types of software as you have found out, all about charging money for any small piece that is required to run there automation equipment. There are some older PLC's, 1, 2 and 5, but the most common and current are the 500 and 5000 series PLC's.

RSLinx (different license versions, subject to what you want to do) = comms converter between PC (runs on PC) and PLC
RSLInx Enterprise (as above) = similar to above, but specifically for Scada to PLC

RS500 (Rockwell Software) = Programming software for the 4th generation PLC, micro's, SLC range.
RS5000 = first release programming software for latest PLC range, compact logix, control logix (up to version 21?)
Studio 5000 = 2nd release of 5000 software, this is the current software and up to version 32.

Factoary Talk = current licensing/directory software
FTView Studio = Scada development software
FTView Client = Scada run time software

And there are plenty more.

hey duckman
thanks for your fast reply
just some points of your answer were not clear to me
1- RS500 (Rockwell Software) = Programming software for the 4th generation PLC, micro's, SLC range.
--///what is the mean of SLC range and 4th generation plcs ? if you can refer to something on Siemens that would be helpful.
---------------------------------
2- RS5000 = first release programming software for latest PLC range, compact logix, control logix (up to version 21?)
--///compact logix and control logix ?! what is that ? plcs families ? like s1500 and s7300 ?
3-version 32 and version 21 this is a firmware version of the PLC CPU right ?

thanks really for your reply and by just knowing that there is plenty more softwares that makes me feel overwhelmed and not wanna learn there technology.

I was a bit out on my models check the link below, unfortunately Siemens isn't listed.
http://www.plcdev.com/plc_timeline
The Control Logix is the top of the range PLC depending on the processor model, equivalent to the best PLC Siemens make.

Compact logix is a smaller less powerful version of the Control logix, but it is still a rack mount PLC.

Between Siemens and Allen Bradley they most probable make up 80-90% of the PLC market. Pick which one is most common in your area and learn that one.
The logic to make them work is the same i.e how and what needs to be on or off to make something go, but how they set that out with there software is a bit different.
I'm AB 500/5000 based and still learning something new every day

I don't do facebook or LinkedIn.
I was wrong again, Siemens + AB = 53%, see link.
