If Ethernet is used in automation, specific protocols and appropriate hardware have to ensure the availability.
Time and security-critical applications in plants do not tolerate downtime. The implementation of a redundancy without changeover (bumpless) has highest priority here.
The automation task consists in allowing bumpless redundancy for a sophisticated industrial application.
To implement the automation task and to fulfill the mentioned requirements, this application provides two approaches on the basis of the mechanism standardized in IEC 62439-3:
Network redundancy PRP (Parallel Redundancy Protocol) with the SCALANCE X204RNA PRP (EEC), SOFTNET IE RNA and CP443-1 RNA.
Media redundancy HSR (High-availability Seamless Redundancy Protocol) with the SCALANCE X204RNA HSR (EEC).
The advantages of these mechanisms are:
