| Code: | Produced and Consumed tags between a 5580 ControlLogix controller (1756-L8xE) and older model controllers (1756-L5x/L6x to 1756-L7x) work as expected.
There is no AOP available that can be used to add in a 5580 ControlLogix controller so that it can be selected in an older revision of software.
In order to represent an L8xE controller in an older revision of RSLogix 5000 (pre-v.20):
Right click on the Ethernet module that will be used with the older platform
Left click on New Module
Select a 1756-ENBT/EN2T Ethernet Communications Module
Select the highest Major Revision and OK
Enter a valid Name
Select the Comm Compus (or Rack Connection) to None
Enter the Slot number as 1
Select the appropriate Chassis Size
Select Disable Keying for the Electronic Keying
Enter the IP Address of the L8xE controller
Select OK
Right click on the 1756 Backplane underneath the Ethernet module that was just created
Left click on New Module
Select the latest, largest available ControlLogix Controller
Select OK
Enter a valid Name
Select Slot 0
Select OK
The above method was tested and worked using both a 1756-L55 and a 1756-L63 controller with firmware revision 16 and a 1756-EN2T. This has also been tested with a 1756-ENBT and a 1756-L63 at revision 13.
For any Logix 5000 project in v.20 to v.27, the 1756-L8xE controller can be added as a 5370 CompactLogix controller with embedded Ethernet (1769-L30ER, 1769-L33ER, 1769-L36ER). As long as the CompactLogix in the project matches the IP address of the 1756-L8xE controller physically on the network, the produced and consumed tag connection will work.
If attempting to produce and consume tags between a PowerFlex 700S DriveLogix 5730 Controller it has been shown to work with the DriveLogix 5730 Controller at revision 15 and a 1756-L83E at revision 30 but the 700S DriveLogix 5730 EtherNet Bridge Embedded EtherNet/IP Option card for the DriveLogix 5730 Controller had to be flashed from revision 2.014 to 3.014 in order for it to work.

Logix Platform: Produced Consumed Tags on Different Controller Revisions
Question

| Code: | It is not necessary to change consumer programs if the producer controller revision changed.
You can also change producer controller type but leave the old type in the consumer program. Placing the controller in the I/O tree serves only the path purpose.
Select the highest available controller and communication module as a rule.
This is also true for CompactLogix systems. For example, an L32E at revision 19 can consume tags from an L30ER at revision 24. Add the L30ER as an L35E at the highest revision available.
Example 1
Produced/consumed tags via Ethernet with the following conditions:
Physical producer controller and Ethernet module:
1756-L72 revision 19.053
1756-EN2TR/B revision 4.004
Physical consumer controller and Ethernet module:
1756-L61 revision 16.057
1756-ENBT/A revision 4.004
RSLogix 5000 version 16 doesn't have the L72 and EN2TR in the I/O Configuration list. Configure the following modules instead:
1756-L63 revision 16 (instead of 1756-L72 revision 19.053)
1756-EN2T revision 2 (instead of 1756-EN2TR/B revision 4.004)
Example 2
Produced/consumed tags via ControlNet with the following conditions.
Physical producer controller and ControlNet module:
1756-L62 revision 19.052
1756-CN2R/B revision 20.013
Physical consumer controller and ControlNet module:
1756-L55 revision 16.022
1756-CN2R/B revision 20.013
RSLogix 5000 version 16 doesn't have the L62 revision 19 in the I/O Configuration list. Configure the following modules instead:
1756-L62 revision 16 (instead of 1756-L62 revision 19.052)
RSNetWorx for ControlNet version 10.01.00 also doesn't have an error when scheduling the network.
Note: Change the communication module Properties --> Comms Compus to None. The "Rack Optimization" connection is not needed if you are only consuming tags. Sometimes rack optimization can cause these communications to error.
