Dear All,
I'm trying to connect this gateway Prosoft PLx31 to my PLC 1756 using ethernet/ip and then from the gateway to DCS using modbus tcp/ip
The question is I have only one ethernet port in the gateway , How can I connect the PLC to this port and again from the same port to the DCS, Must I have a switch ? +

Hi mohamedsamy9393.
the single port on the PLC31-EIP-MBTCP will handle both the Ethernet IP and the Modbus TCP/IP traffic. so yes you will need an Ethernet switch and I would recommend you use a managed Ethernet switch and enable IGMP snooping as is recommended by the ODVA for Ethernet IP networks. If you only have a very small number of Ethernet IP devices then a un-managed switch should work okay but I would not recommend it.
Cheers.
Guy
P.S. here is a youtube link with training for the PLX31-EIP-MBTCP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tlab2xW7VE |
