Hi everyone,
I am currently looking for a training PLC book, I am not a complete beginner because I have done basic applications with Siemens/IFM.
However I am looking for a book that could give me a bit more professional level.
I mean, a book that can bring me more deep into programming functions.
At the ocazie I am working on HMI ProFace for my automation company, the final scope is to interface this HMI with our system (a basic remote controlled PLC based device) and with a generic PLC.
This is the reason why I am currently also studying the CANopen protocol more than MODBUS RTU and TCP, we need it to define communication parameters between these systems.
We don`t know yet what kind of PLC we are going to use, however, with the STD IEC every programming software should have basic similarities.
I am looking for a tutorial or a PLC programming course, with a programming simulator software.
I found some online courses but I am not sure if they are what I am looking for, they seem to be basic courses and I would like to do an advanced one.
I started with the IFM and Mitsubishi manual but they provide only a basic knowledge of programming and they stop giving information before to start analysing more complex functions.
I can see that Allen-Bradley sells a tutorial + simulator and it look to be pretty good.
Is there someone that can give me any advice?
Thank you to everyone that will help me. |

Hello Claudio,
My advice is to pick one system, SIEMENS for example, and dig on this path because books are books...all have a generality that are proper to the books....
Other problem is that there are big differences between programming
on SIEMENS, ALLEN BRADLEY, MITSUBISHI, SCHNEIDER....in terms of
high skill programming...
So you have to decide ...my opinion is to choose SIEMENS, and
for starting you need the Hans Berger's books for SIEMENS and
the best way to learn is to get the applications from SIEMENS site or from this forum because I did put a lot of topics on this forum having the purpose as for learning.
You can find these books on forum:
http://plc.myforum.ro/linkhans-berger-automating-with-step7-vt235.html?highlight=hans+berger
http://plc.myforum.ro/hans-berger-automating-with-simatic-vt23.html?highlight=hans+berger
You can download Step7 5.5 for example and the PLCSIM and you
can see yourself the behavior of the programms you wrote..
Some colleagues I saw they put real programs on the forum.
Download and try to understand applications because this is the
way to learn well...
As I said books have a generalization grade which is not proper
for highly skilled programming...
And do not forget that the best way is to programm a real application
because only then you know your competences ...
So this is my opinion...
Good luck. |

At the moment I am pretty busy, we are setting a communication between our system to Proface HMI without a standard interface.
We are using ModBus RTU and I am trying to analyse the problem even if I don`t have much experience in this part, I know basic stuff about RS485 and the protocol RTU.
I found your information very interesting and I will try to start as soon as possible.
Thank you rott |
