PLC Software Engineer - Control Systems

This leading Automation / Special Purpose Machinery manufacturer is currently seeking an experienced PLC Programmer / Software Engineer to provide specialist expertise on control systems and software applications for projects that meet customer requirements.

Key Tasks
- To design appropriate control systems and software applications for machine projects.
- To work within project teams made up of engineers from different disciplines and ensure that their expertise is integrated with other specialist functions from machine concept through to commissioning.
- Write stil specifications and provide specialised knowledge during the initial bid review process.
- Design Programmable Logic Controller solutions.
- Design servo drives solutions and robotic applications.
- Perform machine testing and carry out Factory Acceptance Tests and Site Acceptance Tests.
- Provide customer support that can include visits to customer sites throughout the UK and abroad and assist with installation, commissioning and troubleshooting when required.
- Responsible for enhancing and developing good customer relations and identifying business opportunities in the course of their work.
- Be responsible for following health and safety policies and procedures and ensuring that other staff and contractors do the same.
- Carry out any other duties that may be assigned.

You must be qualified to a minimum of HND (Degree preferred) and have a minimum of 2-3 years experience working for other singular purpose machine manufacturers in the packaging sector or food, drink, clinic product pharma and tobacco sectors, or with closely associated manufacturers.

You should also have -
- Experience of specifying, designing, implementing and testing bespoke machinery and support throughout the complete software lifecycle.
- Experience of one or more of the following control systems is essential:
Siemens: Step 7 PLC programming
Simotion
WinCC HMI programming
Rockwell:RSlogix5000
Factory Talk View
Beckhoff: Automation and drive control systems
Lenze: Automation and drive control systems

Experience of the following would also be an advantage:
- Programming using C, Visual Basic
- Programmable safety systems such as Pilz, Pepperl & Fuches
- Robotic applications using Fanuc, Adept or Epson
- Working to recognised methods such as GAMP and an awareness of industrial imposed standards such as CFR21 part 11
- Interfacing to higher level systems such as SQL databases, SAP, IP21
