Hey all. This is semi-PLC related. It is closest to an inverter so I posted it here in this area.

Anyway - I am working on a panel with a small 24V UPS system. It is a Phoenix Contact Quint-UPS with IQ Technology.

This has internal configuration settings that are configured with the laptop software. This software is free from Phoenix, but I don't have the USB cable to use it.

The cable is part number IFS-USB-DATACABLE - 2320500

Here is an example of the UPS I have:
https://www.phoenixcontact.com/online/portal/us?1dmy&urile=wcm%3apath%3a/usen/web/main/products/subcategory_pages/USV_with_IQ_technology_P-22-04-02-01/3bb431a3-aeda-44d4-9602-3bbf794c80b4

Thanks for any information you may have! I am working overseas and don't know where I could get this cable locally. I am willing to cut up a USB cable and make a temporary cable if I have to.

Sincerely,
David

this is bugging me too...
as an industrial vendor, i don't see how phoenix contact is trying to establish a proprietary interface and not even publishing the pinout,
while selling the cables and memmory devices at premium prices.

my guess is that there are two interfaces on the port:
uart for serial communication,
i2c for the memory sticks (connecting an i2c eeprom = cheapest method).

i opened my QUINT-UPS/24/10 and did some tracing.
the port has:
gnd, vcc (+5 or +3,3 did not measure)
five data lines, these go DIRECTLY to the microcontroller, no protection of any kind, somewhat strange for an industrial device.
    rest seems N/C

three of the data-lines have pull-up resistors, i guess those are the inputs.
the controller is an MSP430 variant, i haven't worked with those before.
maybe somebody familiar with MSP420 can guess the pinout from the connections.

otherwise one would need to examine an autentic cable and memory-stick,
but i'm not paying 40eur for either.

Code:
looking at socket from top

                                      #####
                                      #####---+

                                      +---+---+
  68 / P9.0/UCB2STE/UCA2CLK (w/ p-u)  |   |   |  70 / P9.2/UCB2SOMI/UCB2SCL (w/ pull-up)

Thanks for the reply! I appreciate the time to study the pinout of this device. Our company ended up having to eat the cost of the cable so that I could program the Quint UPS. I don't have it with me at this time, for any measurements, however.

One thing I can say, the cable is very small and compact, and doesn't appear to have any active electronics in it (such as a protocol converter or isolator of any sort).

Sincerely,
David

don't be fooled there, an usb uart interface is small enough to fit into the plug at either end of the cable.

consider that phoenix also sell an rs232 cable:

    IFS-USB-DATACABLE https://www.phoenixcontact.com/online/portal/gb/?uri=pxc-oc-itemdetail:pid=2320500
    IFS-RS232-DATACABLE https://www.phoenixcontact.com/online/portal/gb/?uri=pxc-oc-itemdetail:pid=2320490
    IFS-OPEN-END-DATACABLE https://www.phoenixcontact.com/online/portal/gb/?uri=pxc-oc-itemdetail:pid=2320450

even if there might be a microcontroller with usb, none will support rs232 directly.

Can be used with any TTL to RS232/RS485 converter, USB to TTL Serial converter or TTL to ethernet converter.
Can be converted to Modbus-TCP device if used with USR-TCP232-E2.
