Context
Migrating an application from a PanelView Plus 700 (2711P-RP8D, FW 6.10.17.09) to an older PanelView Plus Logic Module (2711P-RP SER A REV B, FW 5.00.04.55 CPR9). The replacement unit is used but in good physical condition. Due to hardware limitations, it does not support firmware upgrades.
FactoryTalk View Studio Versions
- Tested on FTView Studio 11.0, 12.0, and 13.0.
- Only version 11.0 allowed successful Runtime export for FW 5.00.
Technical Steps
- Runtime Extraction (.MER) from PV 6.10
- Uploaded the .MER file (~3.3 MB) from the operational PanelView.
- Conversion to Editable Application
- Unlocked the .MER using non-standard methods.
- Restored and opened the project in FTView 11.0, 12.0, and 13.0.
- Runtime Generation for PV 5.00
- Exported explicitly as Runtime version 5.00 using FTView 11.0.
- Resulting .MER file size: ~2.7 MB.
- Field Download & Initial Test
- Application loads correctly on the replacement PanelView.
- GUI elements display properly.
- Issue: No communication with CompactLogix PLC (1769-L32E via Ethernet/IP).
Shortcut Configuration Issues
- In FactoryTalk View Studio:
- Cannot add a Local Adapter when editing the shortcut.
- Only the Ethernet Bridge (1769-L32E) with IP 192.168.1.10 appears.
- Unable to add the VA1769/A,3 ASCII module to the shortcut.
- On the physical PanelView:
- If the shortcut is deleted and recreated from the HMI interface:
- No option to add devices under Ethernet.
- Cannot create a new functional shortcut from runtime.
Communication Troubleshooting
- IP address is correctly configured and recognized on the network.
- Same IP settings as the previous PanelView.
- Tested with direct cables, crossover cables, and switches.
- Shortcut appears correctly, but no data exchange with PLC.
Questions
- Has anyone encountered similar issues when migrating to FW 5.00?
- Could this be a limitation of RSLinx Enterprise, Ethernet/IP driver, or shortcut compatibility?
- Does anyone have access to FactoryTalk View Studio 6.10.00 for deeper testing?
Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't encountered any similar issues. A link to the older version of FT View ME 6.10 is in a private message.

issue resolved! Here’s how I got it working:

I went onsite and connected using my laptop running VMware 16 with FactoryTalk View ME v6.10.
In Communication Setup, I connected to the PLC and it auto-detected the controller and associated modules.
I selected the PLC, clicked Apply, then OK, and used Copy to Runtime.
Saved the project and generated a v5.00 runtime.

Then came the twist:

Using ME Transfer Utility, the replacement PV wasn’t recognized at first.
I rebooted the physical PC (Windows 11 Pro) where I had FT View ME v11 installed (v13 and v12 are isolated in other VMs).
From the physical machine, ME Transfer Utility finally detected the PV and I successfully downloaded the runtime.

Final surprise:

When I connected the PLC to the PV using a standard Ethernet cable — no communication.
Luckily, I had brought a crossover cable just in case… and boom, it worked instantly!
Installed the PV on the panel, ran tests, and everything’s communicating perfectly.

There are still a few minor things to improve on the machine (some servo drive tuning and cleanup), but the HMI-PLC link is solid now.
