The SIMATIC CP 1543-1 communication processor supports authentication on a secured network using IEEE 802.1X. As a result, SIMATIC S7-1500 controllers in a network can be authorized to access the network via the CP 1543-1 using IEEE 802.1X-compliant mechanisms.

As of firmware version V3.0, the SIMATIC CP 1543-1 communication processor (for short: CP) supports authentication on a secured network using IEEE 802.1X.
In this application example, you will learn how to authorize a SIMATIC S7-1500 controller via the CP 1543-1 for access to the network using IEEE 802.1X and "RADIUS". The CP is connected to a port of a SCALANCE device. This port is subject to authorization and will only be activated after successful authentication of the CP. Authentication is done using certificates.
