MindConnect FB 1500 provides the software for transferring your machine data on the S7-1500 to MindSphere. It can only be used in conjunction with MindSphere.
The MindConnect FB 1500 is a TIA Portal STEP7 library to extend the functions of the S7-1500 PLC. It supports encrypted transmission of PLC data to the MindSphere Platform through a secure internet protocol in order to enable cloud-based applications and services.
MindSphere enables you to configure your asset easily for onboarding and then to perform visual analysis on your data. MindConnect FB 1500 can only be used in conjunction with MindSphere. It contains Open Source SW which is provided free of charge.

MindConnect LIB creates secure connectivity from an onsite device to MindSphere. Firewall-friendly communication via a MindSphere API and unique onboarding security tokens authenticate MindConnect during onboarding to ensure data is safely transmitted. MindConnect LIB provides an application example that enables programming of customer or use case specific connectivity agents by interacting with MindSphere southbound APIs. These southbound APIs facilitate data transmission from assets to MindSphere, securely and efficiently. By connecting to MindSphere, customers can maximize the value of their machine data through cloud-based applications and services, providing actionable business insights.
The MindConnect Library v4 is the successor of MindConnect Library v3 with a new architecture improving performance, reducing footprint and simplifying user customization.
With the release of MCL v4, support for MCL v3 will continue but new features will be released for MCL v4 only. Developers using MCL v3 are encouraged to migrate to MCL v4. A migration guide is included in the (code) documentation for MindConnect Library which can be found under the link mentioned at the end of this page.
The architecture of MCL is changed due to the plans to extend MCL with independent set of features. With MCL v4, the library is now designed as a core component and extensions to the core component. All functionality of MCL v3 is delivered with the connectivity component together with the core component in MCL v4. Additionally, data point mapping feature is included in connectivity component and agents can now also upload unstructured data to MindSphere data lake with data lake component.
