Hello guys,

I am new here, just finished my second semester. I got a coop task to replace one old PLC to a new one. The tip of the new PLC should not be expensive and be better that they use now, it's SLC 100.

I talked to Shawn Tierney from Automation forum, and thanks to him so much for helping me, about the PLC that I can buy with a touchscreen.

The advice that I got is MicroLogix 1100 with PanelView Plus 1000.

So there are some questions that I have,

1. Before I am connecting a ML 1100 to PVPlus 1000, I need to program both of the devices (I have all softwares). The way that I know is to connect ML 1100/Touchscreen and my PC together through Ethernet via a switch (or in other words, some router) using Ethernet cables with RS232 cable (1761-CBL-PM02 or similar to that) connected to my PC, since some PM02 are designed for old PCs (some, not all) I am gonna use USB to Serial cable (adaptor cable) connecting PM02 to that and after to my PC. Is thats all I need ????? Or do I need some extra devices, cables.

2. When I am done with programming of the devices through my PC, I wont use it anymore. Than RS232 cable from ML1100 goes now to PVPlus 1000, with Ethernet cable that connects two these devices, right?

3. My third question is a bit dumb, since I can go to ab.com and read all features about the two different modules of PLC ( SLC and Micrologix ) but maybe you have the full list of features of these models such as their strong and weak sides. Since on the ab.com there are so little information about these features.

4. And finally the last question is about ML 1100 models that we need to buy, we use SLC 100 + output relay extension unit: models 1745-LP103 and 1745-E105 : what kind of extension model of ML 1100 do we need to buy, so we had the same power/voltage (and other things) rates when we replace it.

Thanks!
