What should you watch out for when upgrading Basic Panels 2nd Generation to device version (firmware) V14.0.1.0?
https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/document/109746274/
Note the following recommendation for upgrading to device version (firmware) V14.0.1.0. When using DHCP, it might happen that if you do not follow the instructions when upgrading, the Basic Panel does not start.
Devices affected
KTP400 BASIC
KTP700 BASIC
KTP900 BASIC
The KTP1200 BASIC is not affected.
Procedure for upgrading to device version (firmware) V14.0.1.0
The are two ways of upgrading.
Upgrade the firmware with the image for V14.0.1.0. Disconnect the panel from the network before starting. Reconnect it once the Basic Panel has restarted.
In this case DHCP also works for the Basic Panel.
Assign a fixed IP address to the device (either via the project or directly on the panel). Then upgrade the firmware with the image for V14.0.1.0.
Background and description of error
If you do not follow the procedure, after the firmware upgrade to V14.0.1.0 there is a risk that the Basic Panel freezes when the boot screen is displayed.
Fig. 01
This behavior occurs when all the following conditions are met:
The panel has been upgraded to a V14.0.1.0 firmware image.
The panel takes the IP address via DHCP (see Fig. 02).
The panel is connected to the network via a network cable.
There is an active DHCP server in the network.
Fig. 02
The default setting with Basic Panels is that the IP address is taken via DHCP. In this way, Basic Panels can be affected when there is an active DHCP server in the network. The behavior can occur in the following cases:
Upgrade to V14.01.0 with ProSave or the USB Recovery Mode
Projects without a static IP address
Devices without a project

Thank you Kellog for the firmware.
The procedure is quite clear.
I did all the step, the update was started, but after all the night the progress is still on 0%.
What was wrong?
I did not put the content of the open source SW on the USB stick.
Is this the reason for the update fail?
What do I do now?
Can I stop the progress at this point and restart changing something (what)?
Sorry for my incompetence.... |

You must put that on stick because all system and booting files are there.
Extract all. |

How do you do an operating system update on operator panels or perform a "Reset to factory settings"?
https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/document/19701610/
With an operating system update you delete the following data on an operator panel:
WinCC (TIA Portal) or WinCC flexible configurations
User administration
Recipes
When you do a reset to factory settings you also delete:
Licenses
Before making an update or reset you should correspondingly make a backup of this data using ProSave and the ALM.
You should do a reset to factory settings by preference for repairing operator panels with damaged operating systems that are otherwise no longer operable.
The following documents provide instructions for operating system updates and resetting to factory settings depending on the configuration software and the operator panels being used.
1. "Operating System Update" and "Reset to Factory Settings" with WinCC (TIA Portal)
The PDF document includes instructions for how to do an "Operating system update" or "Reset to factory settings" (booting) using the WinCC (TIA Portal) software.
Note
With WinCC V11 and higher you no longer need an operating system update in the different versions (for example, WinCC V11 SP1, WinCC V11 SP2, etc.). When you transfer a project, all the currently associated system files (DLLs) are also transferred automatically to the operator panel. The Basic Panels are the exception here.

2. Reset to factory settings" with WinCC (TIA Portal) and Basic Panels 2nd Generation
To reset Basic Panels 2nd Generation (KTP400 Basic, KTP700 Basic / KTP700 Basic DP, KTP900 Basic, KTP1200 Basic / KTP1200 Basic DP) to factory settings you use a USB memory stick that you you have prepared with the corresponding USB Recovery Software as described in
https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/document/109744950/usb-recovery- (reset-to-factory)-mode-for-2nd-generation-basic-panels
This software enables you to do a reset to factory settings for your Basic Panel 2nd Generation.
This software has been released for the following devices:
KTP400 Basic
KTP700 Basic / KTP700 Basic DP
KTP900 Basic
KTP1200 Basic / KTP1200 Basic DP
