Why does Siemens still use PCS7 in Power Plants,
if they have already a dedicated product SPPA for this power applications? |

Hi Kalkan,
It's a good question but for understanding we must go back in time to see the evolution of these systems:
The Power Generation Division of Siemens always had their own DCS system (Teleperm), where the A&D division worked with Simatic S5 an later S7.
As it started with Teleperm C, Teperm M, Teleperm ME, Teleperm XP (later named as SPPA T2000), and the last generation SPPA T3000.
These systems were specially designed for the Powerplant Industries and also used in waste incinerators.
The A&D division had their own Simatic (or Iscamatic in the very early days), which could be used in any industries for automation.
The development went on, so after the S7, the layer PSC7 was created, which can be used as a DCS system for a big plant.
So S7 and PCS7 can be used for a variety of industries, from small to very big, as SPPA T3000 is specially designed for the Powerplant Industries. |
