Nearly two-thirds of the Washington DC surveillance cameras were blocked by two Romanian hackers, who then attempted to blackmail the US authorities. They also endangered the White House area. The two are accused of trying to blackmail through malware.

The two operated outside the US, accused of infiltrating 65% of the surveillance cameras installed in Washington, meaning 123 of the 187 units in the city. The two are Mihai Alexandru Isvanca and Eveline Cişmaru.

The two Romanian hackers are accused and have used the computers to which the cameras were connected to distribute ransomware viruses via emails. They were found through a registered e-mail address called "Selling Souls".
