Hey PLC gurus!
I come again asking for knowledge.
Recently I was given a new laptop computer by the company I work for. It is a Intel Core i5 with Windows 7 Professional x64.
I have tried to install all my Rockwell software, however the Factory Talk View 6.0 is refusing to install with "Incompatible OS" error.
Is there a workaround for this? I have tried all the usual compatibility mode tricks and nothing works.
I don't want to install a virtual machine on this laptop if it is at all possible. Is there a version of FT View which I can use on Win 7 x64? I need to be able to use the Studio, but not to run an HMI from the laptop. Only use Studio and transfer applications to a terminal via RS Linx.
Thanks in advance!
Sincerely,
David |

David,
FT View 6.0 is not supported under W7 Pro x64, you will need v6.1 as a minimum. Be aware that your 6.0 project version will be converted to 6.1 which is not reversible and may require you to upgrade the terminal firmware (or software version if it's a PC).
If you really need to keep the project as a 6.0 version then the only alternative is a VM. Personally, I wouldn't use the W7 XP Mode as it's a bag of crap!
Cheers,
Pete. |

Thank you for the quick reply! I will try eventually install 6.1 version. Thankfully I have an old personal laptop with XP. I can use it to do this HMI job until company can buy the correct software for Win7.
So, clarify - in RSView 6.1, when I compile the program into a .MER file, there is no longer the option of "version 6.0" in the save-as dialog?
Sincerely,
David |

Oh, I apologise, I made an assumption there that you were using SE. You are quite correct, you can compile an ME 6.0 runtime (*.mer) under 6.1.
