Hi everybody!
I have a question, I've installed FactoryTalkView ME 5.0 (FTV Studio also was Installed by default, I guess) and I tried to install FactoryTalkView SE 6.1 (both found on filecrop 175MB each aprox). Is version a problem to install in this case?. Because I can't install FTVSE. the installation gets canceled when I try the "strong" password. But I try with many.
*FTVME asked to install FT services platform version 2, then FTV SE asked to install FT Services Platform 5.4 and I downloaded it from the website ab.com.
*The software you posted is 2GB, and the one I'm talking about is just 175MB, please any help and suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance.

Hope you put the password after the following requirements:
A strong password must be more than 8 characters in length and satisfy at least three of the following four criteria:
•It must contain uppercase letters
•It must contain lowercase letters
•It must contain numbers
•It must contain non-alphanumeric characters; for example, #, %, or ^
As of version 6.1 of FactoryTalkView SE (FTVSE), it now uses Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express 32-bit for the Tag Database.
The installation of FTVSE will automatically install SQL and configure the database for use by FTVSE.
In your case it seems you have not the appropriate version of SQL Server.
The FTVSE tag database will be auto configured on install.
So you have two choices:
1. Go for right MSSQL tools :
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Management Studio Express link:
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=22985
Download the appropriate file:
"SQLManagementStudio_x86_ENU.exe", (32 bit CPU computers)
OR
"SQLManagementStudio_x64_ENU.exe", (64 bit CPU computers)
2. (Recommended)Download the full FTV6.1 and install...
The password strenght considerations remains available.
Then probably you need for older projects the FactoryTalk View SE and ME v6.1 Legacy Tag Database Conversion Tool for 64 bits OS:
•FactoryTalk View SE and ME v6.1 support 64 Bit Operating Systems
•FactoryTalk View SE and ME v6.1 both use SQL Server 2008 R2 Express for their HMI Tag Database. This change allowed the products to run on 64 Bit Operating Systems.
•The older database technology, Watcom, cannot run on a 64 Bit Operating System.
•Projects for FactoryTalk View SE and ME need to be converted before they can be used on a 64 Bit Operating System
So Download:

for converting old projects.

I meant: I installed FTV ME 5.0 CPR9 (205MB) and FTV SE 6.1 CPR9 SR 4(185MB), does the version matters, for installation?
When , i got that error, after trying the strong password (PREdator85, PREdator85%, which match with requisites for "strong" password) I downloaded SQL Server 2008 Express and also the management console.
But anyway I couldn't installed it.
So I found your post, and I wonder if I downloaded this FTV SE 6.1 (2GB), would I get the same error (If my strong password is ok) because of the software version??

Hi everybody,
I've downloaded the 25 parts. I tried to join the files with hjsplit and after extracting i get a file with no extension, i tried by adding .rar and iso, and i got a error when double click the installer. "It's not a valid application". and the file is 0 bytes, any suggestions or help, thanx in advance.

The original disk was mounted with Nero and is .nrg type.
You have two choices:
1. The simplest way and is you have to use 7-Zip from SourceForge.net....
It's a tribute to programmers who made such freeware programs...
Download from this link..
http://www.7-zip.org/download.html
the appropriate 7-Zip in accordance with your Operating System from your computer.
Install 7-Zip and then use on the first file .001 Mouse->Right Click->7-Zip->Extract to FTView...
It will be extracted direct on the Folder.....
Then on Setup->Mouse->Right Click->Run as Administrator...... and...enjoy....
2. Install and Open Total Commander (I use v7.56 search in forum to download) to the folder you've downloaded FTView..
..then on the first file .001 Mouse->Right Click (The name of the file become red)
...go to File ->Combine...
You have to install UltraISO ..search in forum and download..
Depend on what is installed on your system (see associations on UltraISO or Nero)normally it should appears FTView... .nrg
Make the associations in UltraISO (see .nrg) and eventually add the .nrg extension to that file....
Then Open with UltraISO and burn on a DVD..or with UltraISO extract in a folder on Hard Disk...and install...

Thank you for the new links.
I tested out FTView Studio 6.10 SE and noticed that it runs quite slow on my WinXP virtual machine.
Could you recommend me another version that does not have too many dependencies (especially SQL Server; that slows down the system a lot) ? Is RSView Studio SE (from 2005-2006) a good choice ? |

hello red_alert,
I saw mojo put a link regarding virtualization

but the guys from AB do not treat frontal the problem....
and of course depend what type of virtualization do you use:
It seems that virtual machine from VMWare is better than Microsoft VirtualPC...but I do not want to put you on a wrong path because depends a lot on what other programs have you installed on your computer...
The best way is to test yourself on your own machine because what could be better for me could not be satisfactory for you....
I tried as much as possible to avoid virtualization using another relatively old laptop for XP and it works satisfactory...
So the only answer possible is to use VMWare.... but cannot recommend what software specifically to install...... it depends on too many factors... |

VMWare slows down the host machine even when no VM is running, as it installs a bunch of services and processes that run in background.
I also noticed that a classmate couldn't ping the PLC through the bridge connection, while on VirtualBox all I had to do was to modprobe vboxnetflt driver.
One program that does run fine is RSView32, but its interface looks disheartening to a young designer.
Will soon test RSView Studio and come back with opinions. |

You remind me a joke....
Rule No.1: ....the best virtualization is not to use it......it's a saying circulating between users....
I used VMWare with some SIEMENS old programs and works satisfactory...
but...
Rule no.2: Anytime you encounter a problem go to Rule No.1... |

RSView Studio does run much faster than FTView Studio on my VBox XP Guest machine, though is takes up to 10 seconds to start or to configure a new project.
If I were to work daily on it, I would create a dedicated partition on the real drive. |

I Dowmloaded this file (FTViewSE-6.10.nrg), and installed this perfectly, but i don`t activate this.... how i do?? this have only trial sofware?
I try with the hex metode and replace the files but its only in trial mode...
Can somebody helpme please.

Download from this link..

the appropriate 7-Zip in accordance with your Operating System from your computer.
Install 7-Zip and then use on the first file .001 Mouse->Right Click->7-Zip->Extract to FTView...
It will be extracted direct on the Folder.....
Then on Setup->Mouse->Right Click->Run as Administrator...... and...enjoy....
2. Install and Open Absolut Commander (I use v7.56 search in forum to download) to the folder you've downloaded FTView..
..then on the first file .001 Mouse->Right Click (The name of the file become red)
...go to File ->Combine...
You have to install UltraISO ..search in forum and download..
Depend on what is installed on your system (see associations on UltraISO or Nero)normally it should appears FTView... .nrg
Make the associations in UltraISO (see .nrg) and eventually add the .nrg extension to that file....
Then Open with UltraISO and burn on a DVD..or with UltraISO extract in a folder on Hard Disk...and install...
