I wanted to understand the principle of operation,
I have:
*** a cpu 317 / 2pn.
*** ET200S remote module: REF 151-3BA23-0AB0 IM 151-3 PN HF PROFINET IO-Device interface module (ERTEC200).
*** An MMC card on ET200S.
*** Input and output cards on ET200S.
1) What role does he play ET200S and why an MMC card.
2) the communication between ET200S and the cpu is in Ethernet, are the Et200S inputs are called directly on the CPU passed through communication blocks?

Firstly go to
http://w3.siemens.com/mcms/topics/en/simatic/tia-selection-tool/pages/tab.aspx
download
https://webservices.siemens.com/tstcloud/files/desktoptools/tst/download/tia-selection-tool.zip
and install.
This will assure you a hardware configuration with error free hardware components.
Compose the hardware as in
and project->Export->TIA Portal or ECAD System
Download Tia Sel Tool project

You must have installed TIA Openness in TIA14SP1.
Then in TIA Portal 14 SP1 which I have installed make a new project and
Tools-> Import CAX data
and you'll have the project opened.
define Digital Inputs tags
define Digital Outputs Tags
And you'll have all the Tags in S7-300 CPU
And then you can use in S7-300 the tags for programming

it is rare to find a detailed explanation;
i have as software a step7 and tialportal V11
I started working this configuration on TialPortal v11, at that moment everything is clear,
