Dear Colleagues,
Can anybody share any DSL sizing calculations of heavy duty EOT cranes. Heavy duty crane can be seen in IS 4177. I do not know about any other international standard _________________ veemandal |

Hello veemandal,
along the years we are using Conductor Bar Systems from Wampfler.
http://www.conductix.us/literature/
For Heavy Cranes this system is used..
http://www.conductix.us/literature/literature-download/?mediaID=55
But on Heavy Cranes on Steel or Mill Facilities we use 50x50 laminated corners with success.
On the vicinity of a BOF Converter you can't use the System from Wampfler
because there are very high temperatures.
So for example for a Heavy Steel crane we are using 50x50 Corner with Iron Collectors and works fine.....
If you want I can send you a project with such a system....
I am not aware about Indian Standards but I do not think exceeds the European or ISO Standards and a software for this kind of design I do not know yet.
Practically a Design Engineer chooses a Conductor Bar System (DSL) and calculate the installed power of all mechanisms of the crane, speeds,..etc
and chooses the appropriate DSL for this job.... |

I could not send you the project but for a Steel Plant you can find here some useful information:
First of all the DSL system used for EOT is Copperhead Conductor Systems from WAHLE
http://www.vahleinc.com/copperhead-conductor-systems.html
You can download a Copperhead Conductor Systems catalog:
http://www.vahleinc.com/assets/files/catalogs/Cat_01a_en_Open_conductor_systems.pdf
The next pictures describe a Copperhead Conductor Systems
for a Heavy Crane (300+100/20)tf for transportation of the ladles with liquid steel or iron.
On the same bay there are two similar cranes with separate connections LC1 and LC2.
You see here the detailed Sections A-A,B-B,C-C,D-D taken from different
positions of the Atingere Line and the Electrical Arrangement for Supply with Reserve Supply.
Here are excerpts from the Contact Line:
Section1:
Section2:
Section3:
What you have to do is to download the .pdf from WAHLE and the Design Engineers to make all the adaptation for your special plant. |

(EOT) Cranes come in various types:
1) Single girder cranes – This type of crane consists a single bridge girder supported on two end trucks. It has a trolley hoist mechanism which runs from the bottom flange of the bridge girder.
2) Double Girder Bridge Cranes – This type of crane consists of double bridge girders supported on two end trucks. The trolley runs on rails on the top of the bridge girders.
3) Gantry Cranes – This type of cranes are essentially the same as the regular eot cranes except that the bridge for carrying the trolley is rigidly supported on more legs running on fixed rails or other runway. These “legs” removes the supporting runway and column system and then connect to end trucks which run on a rail either embedded in, or laid on top of, the floor.
4) Monorail - For some industries such as production assembly line or service line, only a trolley hoist is required. The hoisting mechanism is very much similar to a single girder crane with a small difference of that the crane doesn’t have a movable bridge and the hoisting trolley moves on a fixed girder. Monorail beams are usually I-beams (tapered beam flanges). |
