Dimensioning of a solar panel / battery storage for the supply of an RTU3000C
The battery-powered SIMATIC RTU3000C, which are used to monitor and control external stations, have a flexible power supply. They can be operated with up to 2 x 3 redundant battery modules. It is also possible to connect a battery with a solar panel or a 12–24 volt DC power source.
The SIMATIC RTU3000C is to be supplied autonomously via a system consisting of a solar module and accumulator. This system must be dimensioned in such a way that it can cover a high percentage of the average energy consumption of the SIMATIC RTU3000C in various consumption constellations.
A battery storage system is intended to provide surplus, currently unneeded electricity for later use, such as in the evening and on bad weather days.
The following Figure provides an overview of the automation task.
