You PROFIBUS DP slaves fail or are not on the bus when you start up the DP master system. You want to determine the numbers of the DP slaves affected and with ProTool CS have them displayed on a SIMATIC MP270 operator film.

The diagnostics evaluation of the PROFIBUS DP set up is done in the PLC with the diagnostics function block FB125. This block determines the failed and faulty DP slaves. According to the failed or faulty DP slaves individual bits are set in a defined memory area of the associated instance data block DB125. There is a separate bit address reserved for each of the possible 125 DP slaves. This memory area is also defined as fault message area in the operating system.

The operating system that like the DP slaves is attached to the same PROFIBUS master system, determines through cyclic querying when a bit address is set in the fault message area. It generates a fault message. This procedure is generally known as the message bit procedure. The operator has to acknowledge each fault individually. A message display provides the operator at any time with information on the current faults of the DP slaves.
Alternatively, for existing faults you can open another window on the operator panel. This gives you additional options for diagnostics of the DP slaves concerned.
