S7 block library for data exchange with SIMATIC RTLS
The SIMATIC RTLS ("Real Time Locating System") serves to locate and track production equipment and goods, as well as vehicles such as public transit vehicles. This involves affixing small, active transponders to moving objects. Using various processes, a central Locating Manager ("RTLS-LM") wirelessly detects and collects the coordinates of these transponders and provides them to higher-level systems for subsequent use.

The Locating Manager offers various communications protocols for exchanging coordinate data and any other metadata from the transponders (or infrastructure devices) with higher-level systems.

This application example provides you with the "LRTLS" block library for exchanging data between the SIMATIC RTLS Locating Manager and SIMATIC S7 controllers. The "ExportAVT" communications protocol used for this purpose is based on TCP/IP and is implemented by an S7 function block.

We also offer another block which can use the so-called "ExportEpaperAPI" to switch predefined themes of the ePaper transponders.

The library contains other function blocks in order to realize simple "geofencing" functions on an S7 controller using the received transponder coordinates.

Integrating SIMATIC RTLS into the SIMATIC automation environment allows you to optimize and extend your S7 automation solution with the help of RTLS.
