also interested
It seems license file is locked to Broadcom's VideoCore GPU ID of the Pi.
"faking" this ID or the Pï CPU ID ( /proc/cpuinfo ) does not work since they use a kernel low level firmware lib to access the hardware directly to read out cpuid.
Maybe someone can reverse engineer the codesyscontrol_armv7l_raspberry.bin file.
it seems this bin is using :
open("/etc/localtime", O_RDONLY|O_CLOEXEC) = 5
to read out the demo time-out clock.
maybe faking the clock helps in making higher demo time.
On the other hand, price isn't that high (basis license) for a Pi. so maybe I'll buy one if I have time to tinger with it. |

i've been looking in the .dll files quickly, and could find that compiler.dll seems to have some text about the license ( diferite "CheckLicense" ), but couldn't retro-engineer the hex file
If that does help anybody
Yes the price isn't that high for the basic version, but 100$ for a MultiCore version isn't that cheap for a student like me |

don't know why CodeSys is even asking money for the Pi Codesys "product" since it isn't an industrial approved/allowed SoftPLC.
They even mention this on their website behaviour is not real-time and not allowed for industrial purposes.
So only "use" I can image is indeed for students to learn CodeSys on cheap hardware or if you want to use it as a Smart Home Domotic controller.
I hate it when these big industrial firms don't bother to give a free student version for educational purposes. It's all about the money...
If they would provide a free student version, students their interest would be triggered and maybe they would use CodeSys in their later professional life and commercial sales choices.
Would indeed be nice if someone could reverse engineer this arm based version of CodeSys on the Pi. Just for educational purposes... |
