CIP Client – exchanging process data with third party control systems
https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/document/109782316/
Via a function block in the SIMATIC S7 controller, it can access process values of a Rockwell Automation Control System as a CIP client.
Often SIMATIC controller exchange data with other controllers, peripheral systems, and upper level control systems or with MES or SCADA systems. To do this in a meaningful manner the communication partners need to use the same protocol. The following application example demonstrates the use of the Common Industrial Protocol (CIP) and Programmable Controller Communication Commands (PCCC) as the protocol to perform this data exchange.
Solution
This application example provides a communication library for S7-1500/1200 SIMATIC controllers to read or write process values as CIP clients to Rockwell Automation controllers (CIP server). No changes inside the Rockwell Automation controller are necessary.
The following graphic shows the configuration scenario the function was tested with.
The example explains the use of the “LCCF_CIPClient” function block for SIMATIC controller to read or write process values inside the Rockwell controller.
The now available CIP Client Service Tool allows the fast configuration of the taglist by providing a list of available tags from the target PLC.
Note
The CIP Client Service Tool is still in it's development stage and contains some known anomalies:
If the selected TIA Portal project does not contain a CPU, then the user needs to select the empty line in the CPU selection dialog. Otherwise the user cannot exit the dialog and continue to create the tag list.
If the entered IP address is invalid, the recognizes that but is no longer usable and needs to be closed.
In case a tag list exists already newly selected tags will be added to it regardless of whether they exist in there or not. This may lead to dublu entries in the tag list.
The tag- list is always stored into a folder on the users desktop. This behavior will be made changeable in a later version of the tool.
The Library has been tested with
ControlLogix/ CompactLogix
