Hey everyone,

I’m working on a migration project where I need to migrate shared mailboxes to Microsoft 365 (Exchange Online), and I’d like to get some insights from folks who’ve done this before.

Shared mailbox migration can get tricky because:

They don’t need licenses (unless they cross the 50GB limit or require unic features).

Permissions and accessibility must stay intact.

Large shared mailboxes can cause delays or errors if not handled properly.

From what I’ve checked, there are a few methods:

Manual/Native methods – using PowerShell or Exchange Admin Center, but these can be time-consuming and error-prone.

Third-party solutions – which simplify the process with automation, incremental sync, and better error handling.

I came across the Shoviv Exchange Migration Tool, and it seems to handle shared mailbox to Microsoft 365 migration pretty well. It supports large mailboxes, keeps folder hierarchy and permissions intact, and allows incremental migration (so you don’t have to re-migrate the whole mailbox if it’s interrupted).

Here’s a useful resource I found:

So, I’m curious:

Has anyone here used Shoviv or another migration tool for shared mailboxes?

What challenges did you face during the process?

Any tips for a smooth cutover without disrupting users?

Would love to hear your experiences before I move forward with the bigger migration batch.

Thanks!
