|
|
Hi everyone,
I am fairly new to the world of PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and industrial automation and I am looking for some guidance. I have recently started working on a few small automation projects using Siemens and Allen-Bradley PLCs. While I am getting the hang of ladder logic, I want to ensure that I am following the best practices as I move forward.
Here are a few questions I have:
Modular Programming: How important is it to break down complex tasks into smaller modules when programming: ?? What are the benefits in real-world applications: ??
Documentation: What’s the best approach to documenting your PLC code: ?? Any templates or tools you would recommend to keep things organized and maintainable: ??
Common Pitfalls: What are some mistakes beginners like me should avoid when programming PLCs: ?? Any advice on troubleshooting issues efficiently: ??
I would appreciate any insights or resources that you seasoned professionals could share. Looking forward to learning from your experiences !! I also read this https://technocontrolcorp.com/plc-programming-best-practices-docker/ but couldn't get anything.
Thanks in advance for your help !!

when you create a module, in any type of programming, you try to make it "universal" so you can use it multiple times and in numeroase places.
you also need to avoid falling into the trap of inserting "everything" because it would become large and unmanageable.
all the major plc brands in their "main" programming language insert libraries containing ready-to-use functions that perform most of the tasks.
other libraries, or collections, can be found online or directly on the web pages of the various manufacturers.
nothing prevents you from building your own version of a function library.

documentation is the gold of the future, almost as much as personal data.
when the documentation is well written, even after years, you can still understand the program and the reason why, at that historical moment, that path was followed rather than another.
then with experience and hindsight all the choices could have been different. |
