API client with VBA in Microsoft Excel for connecting a SCALANCE S615 to SINEMA RC Server

SINEMA RC Server provides you with the HTTP(S)-based API (application programming interface) via which you can configure the SINEMA RC Server Web Based Management (WBM). In this case, SINEMA RC Server is the API server that responds to the API requests from the API client.
The communication between API server and API client is based on standard HTTP(S) requests and responses.

The API client sends HTTP methods and URI (uniform resource identifier) to create an API request. The API server responds by sending the data which it can provide according to the request in JSON format.

The figure below shows the principle of API communication.

Solution
In this application example, an API client is implemented in Microsoft Excel with Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) that executes the following tasks to establish a VPN connection between SINEMA RC Server and a SCALANCE S615.

Configure the SINEMA RC Server Web Based Management (WBM) to connect a SCALANCE 615.
Generate CLI file which configures the SCALANCE S615 so that it can connect with SINEMA RC Server.
