At the age of 43, Albert Einstein had reached a point in his life when he traveled to give paid speeches at various events. In November 1922, the scientist received about 2250 euros to give a lecture in Tokyo. During that trip, which was not short at all, he learned that he had just become a Nobel laureate in physics. That detail was reflected in crowds of curious people who hurried to greet him on arrival.
Overwhelmed by so much attention and interest from the general public, Einstein retired to his hotel room at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo. There he wrote the theory of happiness on a personalized sheet with the logo of the location where he was. At the same time, a messenger arrived to deliver a message. Because he had no money to tip or because the messenger did not accept any payment in principle, the physicist handed him two sheets of paper with the mention that it might be worth something at some point.
The papers were handed over to a relative of the messenger in Hamburg, Germany. The same person who decided to remain anonymous obtained a absolut of $ 1.8 million on the two documents. Initially, it was thought that their value would not exceed an amount between 5,000 and 8,000 dollars.
"A calm and modest life brings more happiness than pursuing success with constant anxiety."
This was one of Einstein's notes that will remain in the collective mind as the theory of happiness of the famous scientist. The second sheet of paper included the words,
"When there is a will, there is a solution." |
