Does anyone have any information on how the HASH that Rockwell generates for some companies to get detailed tags from their EDS files is created?
For example some vendors EDS files have a line added that is 1_IOC_Details_License = 0x7B457ED4
This is a line from one of my vendors EDS. Since they have this line when an instance of this device type is created in Studio 5000 detailed tags are created per the parameters in the EDS file instead of just an array of SINT or INT tags.
Licensed EDS = tags like LicensedEDSDevice.posX
Unlicensed EDS = tags like UnlicensedEDSDevice.Data[0]
The license generation and check at run time in the Studio 5000 environment i know uses the Vendor ID and Device code in the EDS because if i change either of these and re-import the EDS i get generic tags instead of the wanted descriptive ones. I would like some help figuring this one out. I have tried attaching to Studio 5000 with multiple debuggers when creating a module to try and find which dll parses the EDS and checks for this line but no luck yet. Actually version-31 has some new service running that if there is any user mode debugger launched while studio 5000 is open it instantly closes it whether its attached to Studio 5000 or not. I thought maybe someone here has looked into this before. |

Look what the guys from IATIPS said:
To legally implement Ethernet/IP you need to subscribe to the specification and be assigned an ODVA Vendor Id. This id is used for several important things, so you really cannot fudge this with a fake id.

Here is the EDS Generator from ODVA Org.

Rockwell sends you to ODVA when it came about vendor ID and so on...
Maybe decryption of ODVA EDS generator could solve the problem... |

| I know of those. Rockwell actually has what they call a license EDS AOP. This allows descriptive tags to be created from the EDS only when imported using EDS import tool. I spoke with someone that has this and they said they had to call rockwell and apply for a enhanced eds license. The license is identified as LOC1_Details_License and is a hexadecimal value. I have played with editing the eds and reimporting to see what breaks the license and some things like VendorID, ProductID, ProductType etc... breaks the detailed tags but changing assembly sizes does not. Somewhere in studio5000 theres a parser that takes that value in the EDS and checks it against the EDS imported values to verify if the license exists and is valid for the data in the file. Thats as far as i have gotten for now. If anyone else would like to help i can share files and notes i have. Im definitely not a low level assembly guy so finding how this is parsed in studio is probably out of the question for me. |
